 By: Theysiga d/o Sundra Rajan

A group of UPM undergraduate students of Bakti Siswa course from Universiti Putra Malaysia carried out a two (2) day vaccination awareness programme on the 5th and 6th of June via Zoom platform which was attended by Associate Professor Dr. Malina Osman, from Department of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Associate Professor Dr. Malina Osman is invited to give a talk on coronavirus vaccination on the first day of the programme. The objective of having the programme was to instil awareness among Malaysians about how important to get vaccinated.

The programme moves to the second session where organizers enlightened the participants about vaccination. We are gave extra attention to registering for vaccination in order to help the society use the MySejahtera app to its fullest. The registration steps were given to help participants understand better. In this session, the participants were also packed with the things they should or should not do before taking their vaccine. This is very important to know what should be done before and after getting a vaccine and its side effects. Therefore, this session is important especially for the senior citizens, because it can help them become familiar with the MySejahtera app and the steps to register.

The second day was kick-started with the Healthy Lifestyle Program, an energetic and fun online aerobics session which was instructed by Universiti Putra Malaysia students. The main purpose of the aerobics session that was conducted by the Group 2 Bakti Siswa students of UPM is to encourage people to take good care of their health despite being in lockdown and in social isolation. This is because it is crucial for the society to maintain good mental and physical health during this alarming situation. To keep the participants engaged, the instructors were interacting with the participants and kept reminding them that the best participants stand a chance to win cash prizes.

The video presentation on Covid-19 and Kahoot’s quiz sessions was conducted. The 1 hour video presentation was actually a collection of many short informative videos on Covid-19 such as the effects, short drama, statistics, interview and vaccine. We also have done the quiz session on Kahoot’s based on the videos that we have presented to the participants. The main reason this program is being conducted is to increase the level of awareness among students of Universiti Putra Malaysia and other participants who participate in this program. The issues that are being focused on are the effect of Covid-19 on the country, what can Covid-19 does to our health and the important of vaccines.
