Serendah, 18 May 2025 – The vegetable planting project carried out at Asrama Kasih Serendah through the Skuad PUTRA (Agriculture for the People) programme by Credit-Bearing Co-curriculum Course students of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has started to bear fruit as the cultivated crops are now being harvested.

The three-day programme, held from 16 to 18 May 2025, is part of a community-based agricultural education initiative that provides students with hands-on experience in applying agricultural knowledge for the benefit of society.

The project also received a full support from UPM's Centre for Co-curriculum and Student Development (PKPP) and was officiated by its Director, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad, who attended the programme to show his support for the students' efforts.

The success of this farming project demonstrates UPM's commitment to advancing the national food security agenda through sustainable and collaborative approaches with local communities.

This initiative also aligns with the aspirations of True North UPM, which emphasizes the role of higher education institutions in building resilient communities through impactful education, grassroots engagement, and direct knowledge transfer.

Through the implementation of this project, students not only empowered the community but also deepened their understanding of agriculture as a key pillar of national development and survival.

Overall, the programme has proven that the integration of knowledge and fieldwork can produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also committed to serving the community, in line with UPM’s motto, “With Knowledge We Serve.”
