February 22, 2025 – The Basic First Aid Certification Program was successfully held at Dewan Putra, Co-Curriculum and Student Development Center, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), with the participation of students and staff from UPM. The program aimed to provide fundamental knowledge and skills in first aid to enhance participants' preparedness in handling emergencies. Throughout the program, participants attended various sessions focusing on key aspects of first aid.

The first session, Basic First Aid, started at 9:00 AM and was conducted by LT. (PA) Abdullah bin Mohamad, Training Unit Officer of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) Selangor. In this session, participants were introduced to fundamental principles of providing emergency assistance before professional medical help arrived. Techniques for identifying emergencies and the initial actions to be taken were also emphasized to ensure effective aid.

The second session, Respiratory Assistance (CPR) & Choking, took place at 10:00 AM and provided exposure to life-saving techniques through emergency breathing assistance. Participants learned CPR steps using specialized training mannequins and how to handle choking victims. This training helped participants understand the importance of quick action in critical situations.

Next, the third session, Bleeding, Wounds & Bandaging, was held at 11:00 AM. In this session, participants were taught how to identify the severity of bleeding, appropriate bandaging techniques, and the use of first aid tools. Practical training was provided to ensure participants understood and could apply bleeding control techniques before seeking further medical treatment.

The final session, Firefighting, started at 2:00 PM and provided exposure to basic techniques in controlling and extinguishing fires safely. Participants learned about different types of fires, the correct use of fire extinguishers, and safety measures when dealing with small fires. They also had the opportunity to practice fire suppression techniques using the equipment provided.

The Basic First Aid Certification Program successfully achieved its objective of increasing participants' awareness and skills in first aid. The UPM Co-Curriculum and Student Development Center expressed gratitude to all parties involved in making this program a success. With the conclusion of this program, it is hoped that participants can apply the knowledge gained to assist in real-life emergency situations in the future.
