
Petaling Jaya, December 10, 2024 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was represented by several key figures in the field of co-curricular activities and student development, when Prof. Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad, Director of the UPM Center for Co-Curriculum and Student Development, Mr. Fahmi Azar Mistar, Deputy Director of the UPM Center for Co-Curricular and Student Development, and Ms. Khairunnisa Abd Rahim, President of the UPM Insaniah Development Club (INSAN), were invited as special guests on the Awani Pagi program on Astro Awani. They were present to share knowledge and experiences regarding the flood mission in a segment titled "The Spirit of Youth and Student Volunteerism in Tackling Floods." The live broadcast started at 8:30 AM, focusing on the efforts made by youth and students in addressing the flood disaster, as well as the role played by universities in assisting flood victims.

Prof. Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad began the discussion by commenting on the proactive measures taken by UPM through various programs and initiatives to ensure that students possess the skills and knowledge needed to face natural disasters. He also emphasized the importance of co-curricular education in shaping versatile students who are ready to contribute to society. Mr. Fahmi Azar Mistar added by providing insights into the implementation of volunteer programs at UPM, which successfully involved students from various backgrounds. According to him, through these volunteer activities, students can cultivate noble values such as empathy, leadership, and teamwork.

Sister Khairunnisa Abd Rahim shared inspiring stories from the Human Development Club (INSAN) UPM, which actively drives humanitarian missions and volunteer work to provide assistance to communities affected by natural disasters. She recounted how the club successfully carried out various flood relief projects, from fundraising to field operations. According to him, the high spirit of volunteerism among club members is the main catalyst for the success of every aid mission carried out. This live broadcast aims to encourage more youth and students to participate in volunteer activities and become agents of change in addressing disaster challenges in the country.

Through this platform, it is hoped that the community can understand the important role played by youth and students in efforts to alleviate the burden of natural disaster victims. It is hoped that this collaboration can continue, and that more youth and students will be inspired to join volunteer missions to address disasters in the future.

The commitment and dedication shown by the students in volunteer activities are clear evidence that our younger generation is capable of becoming positive agents of change in society. The success of these flood relief missions also demonstrates the importance of support and active participation from all layers of society in facing the challenges of natural disasters. With close cooperation between universities, the media, and the community, it is hoped that more initiatives and programs can be implemented to strengthen the spirit of volunteerism and have a greater impact on the community.
