PKPP UPM FORGES WELFARE COLLABORATION WITH KECHARA FOOD KITCHEN

Hulu Kelang, 12 January 2026 – The Centre for Co-Curricular and Student Development (PKPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), continues to demonstrate its commitment to experiential learning by forging a welfare collaboration with Kechara Food Kitchen (KSK) through a welfare programme conducted in the Hulu Kelang area and its surrounding communities.

This programme was the result of a strategic collaboration between PKPP UPM and students enrolled in the course DCE5331 (Youth & Society) under the Master of Human Resource Development programme at UPM. The initiative aimed to provide students with direct exposure to the realities faced by local communities, particularly vulnerable groups in need of assistance, while strengthening their understanding of youth and community development concepts learned in the classroom.

The welfare programme was also attended by the Director of PKPP, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad, together with the Deputy Director of PKPP, Mr. Dahlan Ismail Abu Bakar. Two accompanying officers, Ms. Noor Rifa Kamarak and Ms. Noralis Buang, were also present to oversee the implementation of the programme and ensure the smooth running of all planned activities.

Through active participation in this welfare initiative, students were given the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in real-life settings, while cultivating values such as empathy, social responsibility and volunteerism. This hands-on experience further enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the socio-economic challenges faced by urban communities and highlighted the important role of youth in contributing to community well-being.

The programme was implemented exclusively in the Hulu Kelang area and nearby locations, in line with the assistance focus determined by the organiser, Kechara Food Kitchen. This collaboration reflects a positive synergy between higher education institutions and welfare organisations in delivering sustained support to the community.

PKPP UPM hopes that such collaborations will continue and expand in the future to further strengthen the relationship between the university and the community. This initiative is also in line with UPM’s aspiration to produce holistic graduates who excel academically while possessing strong character, social awareness and humanitarian values.
