WAKE 2025 PROGRAM HELPS STUDENTS AVOID BANKRUPTCY AT A YOUNG AGE

Serdang, 28–29 June – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through its Centre for Co-Curriculum and Student Development (PKPP) in collaboration with the Human Development Club (INSAN), recently organised the Financial Leadership Discourse 2025: From Campus to Life (WAKE 2025).

The programme, held in partnership with the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) and Now Asia International Sdn. Bhd., aimed to raise financial literacy and awareness among university students to better prepare them for working life.

According to PKPP Director, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad, WAKE 2026 is set to be introduced at public universities nationwide in an effort to curb early-age bankruptcy.

“This programme will be introduced to public universities because it has shown great impact and successfully opened students’ minds to managing their spending wisely.

“Through WAKE, students are equipped with leadership, communication, and other soft skills to help them make sound financial decisions and avoid falling into bankruptcy at a young age,” he said.

Programme Director Amira Farhana bt Sallehuddin explained that the programme engaged participants in financial management simulations.

“Through the Cashflow competition, we experienced how to plan our expenses and make financial decisions just like we would in our future careers,” she said.

The two-day programme attracted 70 participants, consisting of second- and third-year students from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, and Universiti Teknologi MARA.

Meanwhile, the programme also serves as a platform to select four top winners of the Cashflow Competition nationwide to represent Malaysia at the National Achievers Congress 2025, which will be held in Singapore this coming August.
