WORLD ECONOMIC & LEADERSHIP FORUM (WELF) 2025

February 24, 2025 – The World Economic & Leadership Forum (WELF) 2025 was successfully held at Dewan Putra, the Co-curriculum and Student Development Center, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This forum was organized by the Sustainable Development League (SDL) in collaboration with MyFundAction and UPM’s Co-curriculum and Student Development Center to discuss global issues related to economic governance, sustainable development, and future leadership challenges. The opening ceremony began with the arrival of distinguished guests at 10:30 AM and was attended by global leaders, economic experts, and representatives from international institutions.

The opening speech was delivered by Nur Izzah binti Norannuar, a student from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) representing MyFundAction. She emphasized MyFundAction’s commitment to developing visionary youth through education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. With over 10,000 volunteers worldwide, the organization continues to play a significant role in empowering youth as drivers of global change.

Next, the forum’s keynote address, titled "Positive Youth Development in Leadership: Unleashing Potential through Mentoring," was delivered by the Director of UPM’s Co-curriculum and Student Development Center, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad. He highlighted the importance of mentorship in developing youth potential through the concept of Positive Youth Development (PYD). Approaches such as youth-adult partnerships and the use of technology, including e-mentoring, can strengthen youth leadership in facing future challenges.

The forum featured three key modules. The first module discussed reforms in global economic governance, including power imbalances in the IMF and World Bank, as well as transparency in international economic decisions. The second module examined the governance challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) and competition in the digital economy, while the third module focused on economic recovery strategies for post-conflict nations.

Through discussion sessions and panel simulations, participants developed action plans to address global challenges. Overall, WELF 2025 provided future leaders with a comprehensive understanding of global economic and leadership issues, as well as effective solutions for navigating global transformations.
