UPM students raise funds to help the disabled

SERDANG - To alleviate the burden of the Disabled (OKU), 38 Bachelor of Communication students from the Faculty of Modern Languages ​​and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) acted to raise funds to help the group.

The students who took the Volunteer Development Course, Co -Curriculum and Student Development Center have organized the Empowering Disabilities program in collaboration with the OKU Hati Berganda Welfare Association, Selangor to raise the funds.

Program Director, D. Dharshna Murthy said, the effort was carried out out of concern for the fate of the disabled in Malaysia.

“The objective of this program is to create a community that is caring and in tune with the surrounding community as well as to remove selfishness among students and the community.

"The program, which lasted for more than a month, conducted an online collection to help the affected disabled people around Selangor which will be channeled through the Double Heart Disabled Welfare Association," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, there was a Casual Chat activity: Ankara Dreams and Reality which aimed to provide awareness to the community online with three panelists namely Fendy Caliph Buskers, motivational expert, Dr. Ruzimi Muhammed and Senior Lecturer of UPM Communication Department, Dr. Mastura Mahamed.

The knife that was discussed in the casual chat program to open the eyes of the community about the reality of life of the disabled.

In the meantime, the Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages ​​and Communication UPM, Prof. Dr. Mohd Azidan Abdul Jabar also supported the program which was seen to provide opportunities for students to channel their devotion and to improve their soft skills.

“Students need to instill the values ​​of caring and leadership in themselves and hope to see students become excellent members of society not only in terms of academics but also leadership and personality.

"In addition, programs like this can provide opportunities for students to strengthen their soft skills or soft skills so that they can become the dream students of employers when they graduate later." he said while officiating the program.

So far, these students have managed to collect cash amounting to more than RM3,000.
